We caught up with country star, Levi Hummon, to chat about all things music! The singer talked to us about his songwriting process, the song he wishes he wrote, and more! Read our exclusive interview below:
Let’s talk about “Don’t Waste The Night” – how did the song come about for you? What’s the story behind it?
“Don’t Waste The Night” is a song about not wanting the perfect night to end with the perfect girl. I got the inspiration for the song on the drive to my cowrite when Ed Sheeran’s song “Don’t” came on the radio, and I wanted my song to have that same RnB influence. I immediately added the song to my live set and it stood out as a fan favorite.
What’s the reaction been like for you?
I remember playing Windy City Smokeout in Chicago and hearing the crowd sing the song back to me for the first time, and I was really blown away. It’s amazing to dream of releasing a song and see that people react to it in a positive way.
What’s the songwriting process usually like for you?
I usually lean toward interesting melodies in cowriting sessions. I love to push the boundaries of whats country and I usually end up discovering my own voice when writing new material.
Is there a song that you absolutely love that you wish you wrote?
“Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. That song always hits me right in the gut.
When it comes to stage presence, which artist(s) do you take inspiration from?
I feel like I’m always inspired by every artist I’ve ever opened up for. It’s funny you take bits and pieces away from every artist you watch and it becomes part of your own “thing”. I remember watching Kip Moore walk around the stage and how he interacts with the crowd. That quickly became something I wanted to emulate in my set.
What’s been the highlight of your year so far?
I loved performing at Stagecoach. It was the cap of three weeks on the road and it was just amazing. Love me some California.
Are there any memorable fan encounters that you can share with us?
Yes. We have an amazing fan base up North. There are two fans that have been to very single show on the East Coast. They always come with their Levi Hummon gear and it’s a great reminder why I do what I do.
Musically, what’s next for you? What should fans be expecting?
We have some pretty special music and touring stuff we’re about to announce – get ready.
Which artists/songs have you been loving lately?
I have been loving the new Thomas Rhett record and Anderson Paak.
What’s the best way for fans to get your attention on social media?
Just comment and stay engaged! I love seeing when people are listening to my music on Spotify, Pandora, or iTunes. So send me screenshots.
Career-wise, what’s something you’re hoping to cross off your bucket list?
I wanna go to the moon haha.
Any special message for your fans?
Yes! Follow me, come to a show. I can’t wait to meet and hang with everyone very soon.
